A house that holds you

You have a retreat inside you. Maybe it has been whispering for years. A week of yoga in the Highlands, a women's circle by the fire, a sound journey beneath ancient trees, a gathering of your community somewhere wild and beautiful.

We know that feeling well, because we live it. Rock & Rose Adventures brings our own Soul Retreats to Dungarthill House, and now we would love to help you host yours there too. Bring your vision and your people. We will take care of the rest, from the house itself to the chef, the healers, the guides and the little moments of magic your guests will talk about for years.

The house

Dungarthill House

Dungarthill House was built in 1889 as a wedding gift, and it still carries that feeling of celebration in every room. The original Victorian fireplaces, cornices and panelling are all still here, and so is a deep, gentle stillness that settles over you the moment you arrive.

The house rests on 129 acres of private lawns, woodland and water just outside Dunkeld, close to the River Tay and just a ten minute drive from the Hermitage. Inside you will find eleven characterful bedrooms, lounges with open fires, a formal dining room for long candlelit feasts, a breakfast room, a generous Aga kitchen, a fire lit TV room and a billiards room with a cosy snug. It is a beautiful home for groups of up to twenty, with space for practice, ceremony, rest and celebration.

The location

The heart of Scotland

Perthshire is the green beating heart of Scotland, a land of ancient woodland, rushing rivers, standing stones and some of the oldest living beings in Europe. Dungarthill sits five minutes from the cathedral town of Dunkeld, twenty minutes from Perth, around ninety minutes from Edinburgh and just over an hour from Glasgow. There is even a sleeper train from London to Dunkeld.

Your guests can walk the grounds at dawn, reach the Hermitage waterfall in just ten minutes by car, and within an easy drive stand beneath the great Fortingall Yew or sit inside the stone circle of Croft Moraig. The land here is alive with story, and it gently does half the work of any retreat for you.

A rare blessing

The white deer

Dungarthill holds a beautiful secret. A pure white deer lives on the grounds, moving quietly between the woodland and the lawns, and if you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of her. On our last retreat she stepped out of the trees during our morning yoga practice, and the whole circle fell into a hushed, wide eyed silence.

In the old Celtic stories the white deer is a messenger of the Otherworld, a sign that you have crossed onto sacred ground. Whether she chooses to show herself to your group or keeps to the shadows of the trees, you will feel her presence woven through this land.
